Patronised by the emperors of the Mughal era, Kathak is one of North India’s most classical and elegant dance forms. It tells stories with graceful hand gestures or mudras, expressive facial expressions, and hypnotic footwork. The Kathak Room on the Rajas Floor is rhythm in motion.
Bed Type: King
The room features three art installations namely Dancing Feet, Peti and Dholak. To create an eclectic musical medley, the dancer’s ankles are clad in ghungroos or ankle bells, which complement the sound produced by the dholak and peti. The painting in the room depicts a male and female kathak dancer telling a story through dance. It also includes a portrait of Wajid Ali Shah of Oudh, a connoisseur of this dance form. The chair is inspired by the sarangi, a short-necked string instrument used in Kathak performances. Its one-of-a-kind shape, made from a single block of red cedar, is responsible for producing soulful music.
